New Delhi: It was a celebrity push for the Indian Army when it got itself a brand ambassador by enlisting southern superstar Mohanlal an honorary Lt Colonel in the Territorial Army. And for once, it was the celebrated film actor who had stars in his eyes.

“It is an amazing moment. My family is with me in one of the best moments of my life,” Mohanlal said.

Actor Mohan Lal is now Lt Colonel Mohan Lal

Padmashri Mohanlal who is also a 3-time National Award winning actor was given the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel and was inducted in to the Territorial Army on July 9 after Army Chief Deepak Kapoor did the honours to the actor in a grand ceremony in Delhi. After Kapil Dev was inducted in to the TA in 2008, Mohanlal is the second big celebrity who has been given the honorary rank.

The Lt Col rank has been given to the actor following his patriotic performance in superhit Malayalam movies like Kurukshetra and Keerthichakra. The actor will now officially join the 122nd infantry battalion of the Madras Regiment in Kannur. The actor may also be the brand Ammasedar the Territorial Army and is expected to tour schools and colleges in the country to induct youth in to the army.
